Bio :
Allan Rice was appointed as the Executive Director of the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission in August 2007. He was previously employed as a captain with Hoover Fire Department, Hoover, Alabama, and as the program coordinator for Fire Science and Emergency Medical Services at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham. He also served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL, teaching both on-campus and throughout the United States.
During his fifteen years of service with Hoover Fire Department, Allan held assignments as a firefighter/paramedic, lieutenant, fire inspector/investigator, and public educator/public information officer. He was assigned to the high angle and hazardous materials teams and worked extensively with law enforcement as a medical support officer. He holds state certifications for Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector III, Fire Investigator, Safety Officer, and Rescue Technician: Rope, Confined Space, Structural Collapse, Trench, and Surface Water. He has taught numerous courses pertaining to firefighting, emergency medicine and hazardous materials and has previous experience as a trauma and flight nurse.
Allan received his paramedic certificate and undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds a graduate degree in public and private management from Birmingham-Southern College. He is a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Professional Firefighters of Alabama, Alabama Firefighters Association, and Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs. He and his wife Kelly live in Hoover with their two sons, where they are active in church and community affairs. |
