Three firefighters were hurt Saturday night when an extra-alarm blaze broke out at a vacant residence in the Park Manor neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.
The firefighters suffered minor injuries, fire officials said, adding that two had leg injuries. All three were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they were in good condition.
The 2-11 alarm fire -- which calls for more than 100 firefighters be sent to the scene -- broke out about 9 p.m. at the three-story residence near 68th Street and Prairie Avenue, fire officials said.
As of 10:10 p.m., flames were visible on the top floor and were shooting from the roof, they said.
A mayday call, which indicates a firefighter is either in distress or unaccounted for, was instituted for one of the injured firefighters at some point during the blaze but was later called off.
The building was vacant when the fire broke out, and no other injuries have been reported.
The alarm was struck out at 10:48 p.m., said fire officials.
