Fla. Firefighter Injured in Ambo Crash
Wednesday, March 3, 2010
-
A collision involving a sport utility vehicle and an ambulance Tuesday evening left a passenger in the ambulance critically injured and the driver of the SUV dead.
Police said the SUV collided with the passenger side of the ambulance, which was making a left turn from Virginia Avenue onto 25th Street shortly after 6 p.m.
The impact knocked the ambulance onto its side.
Police said the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder, Germaine Lindor, 63, of Port St. Lucie, struck the ambulance and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The ambulance's driver, St. Lucie County firefighter William Hines, and a passenger, Christopher Doyle, were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Hines was treated and released, but Doyle was listed in critical condition.
Authorities said the ambulance was not carrying a patient.
