IAFC Candidacy Speeches

Purpose:
The purpose of the IAFC Health and Safety Awards Program is to recognize both organizations and individuals that have made a significant contribution to the overall environment of health and safety within their own organizations and within the fire service as a whole.

Categories:

I. Safety Officer of the Year – Presented annually to a safety officer in a fire department (of any size or composition) who has made a significant contribution to their organization and/or the fire service as a whole in the area of health and safety.

Jointly sponsored award with the Fire Department Safety Officers Association.

Must be an active member of both IAFC and FDSOA.

Must hold a position as a health and safety officer and/or incident safety officer.

Must be certified by FDSOA as a Health and Safety Officer and/or Incident Safety Officer.

II. Fire Service Executive Safety Award – Presented annually to the chief executive officer of a fire department (of any size or composition) which has demonstrated a unique commitment to fire service health and safety.

Must be an active member of the IAFC.

Must be the Fire Chief, Chief Engineer, Chief Fire Officer or other top level executive of a fire department or fire brigade.

III. IAFC Safety Performance Award –
Presented annually to an IAFC/SHS member in recognition of personal commitment and achievement in the area of health and safety.

Must be an active member of the IAFC and the SHS section.

IV. Fire Service Organizational Safety Award –
Presented annually to fire service organizations (of any size or composition) which have demonstrated an outstanding commitment or significant contribution in the area of fire service health and safety. Fire departments, public agencies, private companies, or other organizations that are affiliated with or sponsors of the IAFC may be considered for this award.

If the organization is a fire department, the fire chief must be a member of the IAFC.Qualifications for this award shall be at the discretion of the Selection Committee.Multiple organizations may be recognized in any one year.

Timetable:
Nomination Phase (January 1 – March 31)
During this phase, nominations are accepted on the nomination forms located on the IAFC’s website.

Selection Phase: (March 31 – June 1)

During this phase, awards are selected by the selection committee as appointed by the Section Chair and comprised of the following as a
minimum:

IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Operations Section Chief or Board Member

IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section Member at Large

FDSOA appointee

Awards to be presented as part of the annual section meeting held during FRI.
